The Story Till Date

Hello Guys…

Just on a day when we are working hard to bring back the spirit of our trust, I just want to go back to the day when it started and remind of the things till date…

How it started???

Hope you all aware, the day when I asked you all, that we can should do something to the society, the under privileged especially. I still remember it. I was going to each bench to discuss about the idea and get to know how the response is. I know that day, the response was really not mind blowing, but I could able to sense some minds from it.

There were lots of funny discussions around the tables. Some were asking money to buy cricket kits, some were asking help to renew their bus pass, someone laughing aloud and someone laughing within. I don’t remember the date, but the scene is still in my mind. I’ll never able to forget that!!!!

But, I could able to hear some genuine voices to really take it forward. I have to thank Vishnu, the first hand I got as a support to start with this. I guess, Vishnu still remembers the day, when we went to an auditor just to talk about the procedures of opening a trust. It was near the Vadakovai(North Coimbatore) Bridge.

The first word that came up from the auditor was, ‘Just think before you go for it, because many people have started like you and have never succeeded’. But I and Vishnu saw the positive side of it. We just thought of the people who started it and succeeded. What I had in my mind is, even if not everyone supports it, at least I need 10-15 people who can contribute and slowly we can succeed!!!!

And there was it, our last day of college, May 31 2006!!! Many of us just got our joining date in our companies and the days were soon approaching. I was eager to make our trust a reality before I leave for my training and I was confident that I’ll somehow get Chennai and will comeback and continue. There were again some more helping hands has come to hold us.

The real challenge is, nobody knows what to be done!!!!

The Birth of MMSWT

We came to know that Shanku’s dad is an auditor and asked Shanku for help. He took us to another auditor and things were proceeding really fast as the date was approaching and we had only 3 days to depart.

The real date has come. We were in the Collector office!!!! Yes, the dream is coming true…. There it is the trust deed and other paper works are getting ready and are in front of us, just some of our signatures to make it a reality!!!

Thanks to Vishnu, Dharma, Subbiah, Kabali, Lachu and Shanku. They form the trust committee with me as the Managing Trustee!!!

Also there were Gokul and Shafeeq!!! They signed as the witness!!! And now, there it is, the dream has come true….

‘Mech Maniax Social Welfare Trust’ is born!!!!

The Rise and Fall

The joy behind this was immense. Then the life started to take us to our own path. Everyone started to move in their directions.

But unfortunately, we could not able to open a separate Bank account for our trust and was decided that the amount can be transferred to my account and we can start the proceedings. Things started well. A good start does give you a great satisfaction. Yes, there was. But there was as much fear, how we are going to proceed.

There came an other blow to me. I got my posting in Hyderabad instead of Chennai, which I was expecting. I was expecting Chennai as most of our strength was there. I was not sure what to do. But still, we started well. The initial contribution was good for about first three months.

I came to Coimbatore for a vacation and Vishnu too. We approached ‘State Bank of India’, where I hold an account for opening a separate account for our trust. The response was really bad from the bank. They just threw the file on the table and said they have much other work than reading our trust document. I think Vishnu also remembers it for ever. That was like slapping on our faces!!!!

Then Vishnu said he would get his Dad’s help to open an account in KVB. I was agian back to Hyderabad. Days moved on and after that there was no real proceedings in the contribution. There was a regular contribution only from Vishnu and a rare contribution from other one or two each month. But still, things proceeded. There were so much of mails to remind people, but of now use. Then a state of frustration started gripping around my mind. We are failing especially I’m failing!!!

The Bounce back

I was already in Chennai by then. Few months passed by and there were no progress at all in contributions. But we have already helped quite a few people including education and health. I was really proud about that. But, one thing in my mind was never lose hope. We should not lose it by any chance. I mailed the situation to all. And then, there started again some talks about MMSWT. I was happy with in, but have to make up the proceedings.

The proceedings again started from December 2007, with the helps of Kabali, by creating some mailers and Subbiah, circulating them each month to ensure a reminder. This continued for few months and the contributions started flowing again from our guys initially and as always, it started to fade into the shadows. I was a lot unhappy this time as even when there was a reminder every month, there was a decline and was really thankful to Arunkumar and Venkitachalam for their regular contributions even after that for so long and again some more random contributions from others. The mailer was last sent for the month of June 2008 and was stopped after that. Things were put in the shelves again.

The Next Level???

In October 2008, it was more than two years by then and, Vishnu was concerned about the proceedings. He wanted to make a step forward and make MMSWT to be open beyond Mech Maniax. The idea by Venki was, just at least on watching our proceedings does the Mech Maniax again come back to join MMSWT and start with their contribution. But again, nothing proceeded much!!!

It was again in September 2009, I sent a mail ‘MMSWT-Lost in Dark’ and a follow up mail for ‘MMSWT-Rebuild’. Then there was a little hope light up. There was a meeting in VOC Park ground – Coimbatore on first weekend of September 2009. The attendees were Gopi, Subbiah, Sudhur, Ramoo, Sakthi and me. We came up with some action points to find out each Mech Maniax where they are and group them according to the geography and get their active contact details. We also planned to Open a separate bank account and streamline our activities. The ‘MMSWT-Rebuild’ does has the activities in detail and we started collecting the details of all of us and that was also a big task as the response was poor, but thanks to all who volunteered, we were able to make the contact list as much possible!!!

Where Did we head to???

Yes, you are right… We were same as we were!!!! But that was the first step for what we are doing now. Vishnu again came up with a helping hand to open a bank account. The account was opened in Lakshmi Vilas Bank, Chennai in June 2010 and then the proceedings are in front of us now!!!

The Bottom Line!!!

Guys, I might be harsh sometimes, in e-mails or in person. I really want to apologize for that, but, I took that in hand as that helped to bring out so much of responses from you all. If a mail, that was too soft never ever could have brought a response. It just was a tool to bring us together.

As the same, MMSWT also helps us to bring us together and make us stay together. We need all your help to take things forward, and show the world that we are the

Letter From Founders

Let us tell you how this trust was conceived – still vivid in my memory - before we get into who we are and what we do.

Early 2006 – a bunch of guys, doing their final year of engineering then, went through the emotions as any bunch would do - the feeling of getting parted after the course. But what made this bunch stand out of others is the way they decided to stay together, to keep up the same spirits as they had for the last four years, to live up to the expectations of the friendship. Thus was born - ‘Mech Maniax Social Welfare Trust’ – named after what we call ourselves.

Welcome everyone!!! We are the 2002 – 2006 batch of Mechanical Engineering of Sri Krishna College of Engineering & Technology, Coimbatore. We came up with this brilliant idea of serving the social cause– there couldn’t have been a better way to stay in touch with! Though the entire batch is behind the successful making of this trust - we feel that it is imperative to mention a few names here – Thendral, Dharmaraj, Shanku, Karthikeyan, Karthik, Gokul, Subbiah, Gopinath, & Vishnu.

The purpose of this trust – apart from the reason that this was formed to keep ‘Mech Maniax’ alive – is like any other trust – help the needy by providing them with the required resources – in education, medical treatment and for any other need that would give the beneficiary a new phase of life.

There couldn’t be a better time than now to ‘formalize’ the procedures as well – now that we have run the trust in a very informal manner for the last three years and know how to make this ‘big’. I would like to emphasize that this is a very professionally run trust – just not to let you get carried away by just looking at the basic idea of ‘staying together’. We are a bunch of qualified professionals spread across the country (in fact, we have global presence now!!), working with different organizations and have a common objective – give back to the society. Our service to the needy in the last three years stands as a testimonial to our commitment.

We take this opportunity to assure that we remain committed to this cause and are on the way to make this really big. We also thank all our batch mates who have resolved to live up to this commitment and have been the thick of actions to make this idea work!
